Direct and proud, sometimes intimidatingly so. Possesses great natural talent for Vanguard, but finds herself stuck in the shadow of her older brother's success for some time, so pushes to forge her own path forward. Passionate, with a strong sense of personal justice. Unable to stand for people forcing their agendas onto others, both in the mundane and manipulative senses.

Extroverted, clever and competent, she is the driving force behind getting Try3 to actually function for a good part of the early series. Her friendships are often fire-forged, with her being the fire. Well on her way to being a professional player in her own right, travelling to Europe to study and compete in the overseas league. My personal favourite G character.

KIBA SHION
Age: 17 | CV: Enoki Junya

Advanced Bocchama. Born into money, initially unaware of mundane things like buying subway tickets, for which Chrono and Tokoha taunt him endlessly (affectionate). Eventually suffers heavy losses and bounces back as an absolute hardcore unstoppable no-bullshit badass. Despite his princely appearance and demeanour, probably the most likely person on this list to try and resolve his problems with physical violence. Manipulative (constructively), cocky (constructively...?) and a master of verbal takedowns as well as physical ones. There is Something Wrong with him, but he's undoubtedly a good person.

Once had an actual swordfight with real swords against a dragon trapped in an old man body-prison possessing a different guy. Hey That Isn't A Card Game

SHOUJI KAZUMA
Age: 17 | CV: Batori Shougo

Chrono's ~boy best friend~, appears 300 episodes into this fucking card game anime (100ish if you're just counting G). Mallgoth delinquent with an intensely difficult and upsetting family history. Gets aggressively power of friendshipped into not being as depressed when Chrono begins to recognise the same depth of loneliness he once suffered in him after meeting him one (1) time. He puts up token resistance for a while, but Chrono's persistence is admirable, or something.

Unfortunately his avatar is Cray's biggest dumbass and despite Kazuma being a literal academic genius it doesn't help him avoid the Luard Idiocy Spillover. Heavily tsundere, snarky, touch-starved levels of affectionate when he lets himself express his emotions honestly.

ASUKAWA TAIYOU

The Sun Son, still in middle school. Intelligent but reserved, struggled to separate his feelings of inadequacy from his actual talents to the point of taking a villain turn in the past. Really a good-natured boy with an affinity for making odd friends. Has elements of a natural leader to him, and a fantastic mediator despite his young age. Yellow, to complete the primary colour trio with Chrono and Kazuma, his dads teammates.

IBUKI KOUJI
Age: 23 | CV: Miyano Mamoru

This guy... man. Responsible for Chrono's true introduction to Vanguard. Spends ages being annoying and cryptic and vaguely villainous until actively called out for his bullshit behaviour in public. Really just super awkward and bad at communication, plus weighed down with the responsibility of... kind of everything, honestly. Carries his previous sins with him despite working overtime to make up for the mistakes he had made and having been pardoned by Cray's God Herself, who is now his avatar card.

Survives on Caloriemates and insomnia. Despite only being in his early 20s, his bones probably crack audibly when he stands up. Truly a good person but like. Dude please use your words.

ANJOU MAMORU

Tokoha's older brother, a professional cardfighter and leader of the Kagero clan. A kindhearted, helpful and genuine man with the unfortunate tendency to overwork himself to exhaustion. Endeavours to keep Vanguard fun and entertaining for everyone, and suffers a grave emotional wound when he realises he's unintentionally contributed to the villain's plans.

Difficult to anger, but has hellwrought fury when provoked. Shares a bond with Ibuki after persistently trying to flirt with befriend him, despite Ibuki technically being his boss.

YUMIZUKI LUNA
Age: 16 | CV: Kudo Haruka

Half of idol pair Rummy Labyrinth. Sweet, devoted, and hard-working to a fault. Power of imagination stronger than even Chrono, unfortunately to her personal detriment. Begins playing Vanguard to become closer to her partner Am. Naturally shy, she uses her job as an idol to help her open up more to others. In lesbians (canon) with Am.

CHOUNO AM

Half of idol pair Rummy Labyrinth. Intensely focused, goal-oriented, but can be drawn out of her shell with enough effort. Often gets caught up in her own head, to sometimes disastrous results. A talented and brutal cardfighter. In lesbians (canon) with Luna, and god did they go through a lot to get there.

JAIME ALCARAZ

Loud excitable adorable friendly Spanish professional Vanguard player. Walking flirting machine, aggressively bisexual. Plays the sexy sea man deck. Drives a convertible with the top down. Actually a voice of reason and wonderful emotional support when duty calls for it. What's not to love?

OKAZAKI KUMI

Soft unassuming voice, absolutely vicious sense of humour. Memelord extraordinaire, god bless. Even more of a newcomer to the game than Chrono was but her sheer enthusiasm and absolute godtier luck make her a worthy opponent. Attends Harumi High with Chrono and Kazuma (her classmate). Tokoha's very close best friend.

ENISHI SATORU

Went from a sad Hot Topic vampire goth to a recovering pastel vampire goth. Pretty male arm candy for his two gremlin girl teammates (Tokoha and Kumi) and gremlin man coach (Jaime). Gap moe. Didn't know how to highfive until he was 20 years old. If you disrespect a woman around him he may kill you. He's a lot deeper than this but it's spoilers so you just get fun facts.

HASHIMA RIN

Queen. Individualist, heavy on the tsun tsundere. Harbours intense rivalcrushes on both Anjous. Butts heads with Shion as well for good measure. Used to be power-hungry and controlling, now seeks strength for herself and no one else. Well, maybe her teammates, but they don't need to know that.

ONIMARU KAZUMI

A self-described coward, which is only true if you squint. Petty as all hell.

On Earth, possesses Hoshizaki Noa, a perfectly nice lad with two boyfriends who go to great efforts to try and free Noa from this clowny asshole's control.

The dragon who possessed Onimaru Kazumi. From a long line of ninjas considered to be pretty bad at their job, and ostracised for their unusual methodologies. In an effort to save his clan, ends up being manipulated by Gyze's Apostles into heading to Earth to destroy Vanguard, as he is led to believe the connection between the planets is tied to the game (only partially true). Kind of a gullible dumbass, but truly a good person at heart. Even though his main powerset is brainwashing. Oops.
