w2 sunday night curry group

[ so after all that and just Everything In General chrono has commandeered the kitchen and is just fucken

going to town on a ridiculous amount of vegetables. there's already two piles of meat off to one side before anyone else arrives - one beef, one chicken - as well as rice cooking, which is giving off a fresh, enticing smell. chrono barely looks up unless spoken to.

his kitchen skills are practiced, methodological, clearly someone who has done this many times before. though maybe not commonly at this sheer volume.

you can pop in early to help with the preparation, or arrive later when the scent of spices and onions and meat has started overtaking the building. up to you!! feel free to talk amongst yourselves as well. ]

[ maomao is arriving later, following her nose to see what is happening. she is back in her usual clothes, but hair is up on a high ponytail and she hasn't re-applied her freckles. ]

What is all of this?

[ the massive pot in front of chrono is bubbling pleasantly, clearly the source of the smell. or, one of them - there's two more (smaller) pots that look similar also bubbling away. he answers gruffly. ]

It's curry.

I'd hope so, there's a ton of it.

[ this pot has beef, potatoes, carrots and onions! the other pots contain chicken and tofu as their proteins, respectively. ]

Ever had it before?

I had similar dishes, but not quite like this.

Is there anything you'd like in exchange for a bowl of it?

[Akihiko is over here handling potatoes. He's peeling and doing anything that's requested of him with these, although he's doing it a little slowly due to not being completely familiar with the intricacies of potatoes. They're not something he includes often in the meals he prepares, after all!]

For how many are we cooking? Just us here?

[ peeling is probably the safest way to go, since despite his general casualness chrono seems a bit fastidious about the preparation going on here. slow is fine, as long as there's some to cut soon. ]

Dunno. [ his voice is clipped. ] Jus' making it and seeing where it goes.

[ it's clearly already a lot more than for just the people here. ]

It's been a while since I helped with anything like this. Where I'm from, my friends and I used to have meals like these every once in a while.

[That's part of the reason why he wanted to take part in this, really. He wanted a bit of a familiar situation]

[ that makes him slow in his chopping of carrots for a moment, a flicker of recognition crossing his expression. ]

...yeah. Same here. We'd eat out a lot, too, but cookin' together was fun as well.

[ laurence has never cooked in his life so he's just here a tiny bit early to be nosy, impressed at the cooking skills on display. ]

You do this a lot? Cooking and stuff? [ peering at the ingredient because he's probably also never had curry before. ] What is it supposed to be...?

Yeah. I grew up cookin' for me and my aunt. She's useless at it.

[ he loves mikuru dearly but that woman burns water. ]

It's Japanese-style curry. You ever had it before?

Huh. I thought adults were supposed to be better at this stuff.

No, never heard of it.

She's got other stuff to worry about, so it's fine. Not like I mind.

[ frowns. ]

What're you guys even eating in 2040-whatever?

[That comment about adults supposedly being better at this stuff gets a bit of a snort from Akihiko over there, even though he doesn't pipe up yet. Probably won't pipe up unless Laurence addresses him]

[ in comes zhongli, lead in by the sounds of activity in the kitchen moreso than smell since he comes in fairly early. but he pauses when he sees a bunch of teens at work or around. and - well, he huffs something fond. ]

Well. You're putting up quite the production, here, aren't you..? Where would you have this old adeptus help, to make the process easier?

[ zhongli walks in just as chrono pops open one of the rice cookers to check on it. steam goes everywhere, but it smells lovely. ]

You any good with a knife that's not on the end of a stick?

[ there's a pause of consideration, but not necessarily for the food or chrono. like he's mulling over something.

but then, he undoes the cuffs of his nice dress shirt with his gloved hands and starts to roll them up. it's just - there's not the faintly tanned skin underneath as he does. it seems golden? ]

I am, in fact. Cooking is one of the skills I have on the phone - albeit I am not as talented as Jiaoqiu and Basilio, you may put me to work where you need me, Chrono.

[ chrono chooses to not actively mention that he was primarily distracted by zhongli's age when perusing the profiles. ]

Hey, same here. Guess we match. Can you handle the potatoes? 2cm cubes [ holds his fingers apart to demonstrate ] that's alright.

[ it's then he glances at zhongli's hands, and breathes a surprised laugh. ]

You've got one hell of a mystical tan line goin' on.

[ this is a group pc but you can ignore him he's just jumpscared by whatever is happening with peepaw's arms ]

[Kaworu shows up early but he hangs back... being clueless about cooking and not particularly attached to eating, the food itself means little to him. He mostly just sits and idly stares out the window.]

[ it takes a little bit for chrono to notice kaworu's presence, locked in to his tasks as he is. even when he does, he leaves him be for a little while, expecting he'll come over when he's ready.

eventually, he gets sort of impatient. so when everything's ready to go into the pots, chrono walks over purposefully with a small container of fragrant sauce and a spoon. ]

Try this and tell me if it's too spicy?

[this curry is a kind gesture, he's better able to understand them now. So he takes an obedient bite and then sets the spoon down.]

Alright. You seemed like you might not be into spicy foods, so if you can handle it, that's good.
