[ so apparently people are coming back from unknown places with unknown injuries?? fantastic. also i forgot entirely during the party but chrono's transformation this week consists of transparent skin or thin glass along one arm, his upper chest, neck and one cheek. underneath, there's ticking clockwork in place of flesh.
he approaches kaworu with the trepidation one might have sneaking up on a cat known to scratch. ]
[ oh good, we're all coping this evening. chrono's got his little dragon squishmallow from their welcome box shoved into his shirt and a bag in his hand as he walks in. he looks a little surprised to see kaworu there.
after a moment's hesitation, he sits down across, reaches into the bag, and pulls out a wrapped piece of white chocolate to offer. ]
[Kaworu's also got his little angel plushie. He glances up Chrono and feels surprisingly happy to see him. The corners of his mouth quirk into a soft smile anyway. Except when he sees the chocolate his face turns a little more gray and he waves it away in a "you keep it" gesture.]
[Just getting this rolling because I have been so slow. Kaworu and Chrono are somewhere in the house of mirrors when the dark glass starts showing the outlines of various shapes, like looking in a room in the middle of the night. A furnished apartment in an impersonal way and two boys in a bed. It must be a memory].
oh this is. uncomfortable. for like a lot of reasons. shinji's panic attack is a little too raw and familiar, and pretty much every single action from then on is the wrong thing to say or do on both sides.
but he's here with kaworu, who... well, even this short memory explains a lot. ]
[ he's going to find kaworu, as soon as they're back and laurence has been taken to the hospital. a little frantically, because. well. neither of them would do well alone right now.
when he finds him, there's an immediate wave of stress, concern and... gratitude, too. for being there. ]
[Kaworu is leaning against one of the windows of the mansion, staring outside. For a few moments, there's no emotion, like his mind so far from his body that there's nothing to be felt. Then it comes back... the anger, guilt, the sadness.
He turns to look at Chrono and just... shakes his head.]
[You are walking along the shores of an infinite beach. It stretches out as far as the eye can see, both before and behind you. The ocean stretches beyond the horizon and the sand in the other direction stretches just as far.
You hear whispers in the distance, somewhere beyond the beach. It is lonely, and you seek out the company of others, but as you try to approach, your hands touch a barrier, like an invisible plane of glass cutting you off. You can't see who is whispering, but you know its about you, and you know you they can see you, there is are reflections in dozens of pupils beyond the barrier when the light changes. You press your fingers to the glass trying to see further but it is obscured. And however you see your reflection, you can tell, they do not see you the same way.
You turn towards the ocean. The tide is gentle and the soft push and pull of the water on your feet is pleasant. There is something that calls you there too. Not people, but something. You start to approach but you are then struck by a realization: you cannot survive here, the pressure would crush you. Whatever means you had to survive in the ocean has been stripped away from you. Even if you fight the urge, you end up simply pushed back to shore.
So you walk, endlessly along the shore, hours, days, weeks, months, maybe years. Endlessly moving forward to nowhere at all. All the while, the eyes on the shore watch you.
Then one day, something blocks out the sun. It is a hand, so large that you could easily fit in its palm, and it is reaching towards you. It is cold and metal and belongs to a massive demon looming over you. It must be hundreds of meters tall. You do not run. You simply sit and watch as the hand engulfs you completely.]
he must have dozed off, somewhere in the lobby, one of the couches too inviting after a shaky night's sleep.
the sheer scale of that dream is almost incomprehensible. his chest and head feel hollow, as if they were stretched out to try and understand it all. a beach, a cruel audience, and the resignation of giving up.
at his core, he understands some of its meaning. painful, complete loneliness.
sitting up, hand pressed to his temple, he looks around to try and find the source of the dreamscape. ]
we're doing hospital rounds and kaworu is next. he's by the bed in an instant, hands hovering as if wanting to be comforting somehow but just abjectly horrified by these injuries. ]
[Kaworu just turns away from Chrono in the bed, onto us uninjured left side, is quiet for a moment. It's like whatever spark was in him before has been snuffed out, leaving just a husk.]
We went somewhere. ...I turned into that thing.
[He tried to kill Jiaqiu... He killed Charlie. He killed Anders. Even if it wasn't real... He swallows as to not be sick.]
[Just landing lightly on his feet on the beach like he was floating out of the sky. His hair and skin are damp and he almost looks ethereal if he wasn't shivering like crazy.
